The Terra Brantley Foundation is pleased to announce Brooke Swaidner as the second recipient of The Smart Girls Scholarship.
This $15,000 scholarship is awarded to female students in good academic standing, who participate in, or are graduates of the Boys and Girls Clubs Smart Girls Program.
Swaidner is a junior actively involved in the Boys and Girls Clubs of Huntington County. In 2020, she was named the Club’s Youth of the Year at the site in Warren. Swaidner is an Honor Roll student athlete at Huntington North High School where she plays softball and is also a 4-H member. She plans to major in Elementary Education once she starts college in Indiana in 2023.
“Brooke represents everything that the Smart Girls Program aims to instill in young women,” said Huntington Boys and Girls Clubs Operations Director Ashley Allen. “She maintains a healthy lifestyle, strives for excellence in education and is a leader among her peers. We are grateful for the commitment the Terra Brantley Foundation has made to the Smart Girls Program and Boys & Girls Clubs.”
“I am sincerely honored to have been selected as the recipient of the Smart Girls Scholarship,” said Swaidner. “I will use this award to help with tuition and expenses when I go to college and study to become an elementary school teacher.”
“Brooke has taken the skills and knowledge that she has gained from the program and shared them with her Club and community,” said Desiree Frederick, Program Director. “This scholarship will enable her to continue her education and make a difference in children’s lives.”
“The Foundation is still in its infancy and I am thrilled that we are able to award a second $15,000 scholarship,” said Foundation Founder/President Terra Brantley. “Our goal is to expand beyond Allen and Huntington Counties and offer the scholarship at Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Northeast Indiana that offer a Smart Girls Program.”
The media is invited to a check presentation and reception to congratulate Brooke Swaidner on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Huntington at 608 E State Street, Huntington, IN 46750. Call the Club at (260) 359-1750 for more information.
